Green and Gorgeous: Clementine’s Sustainability Solutions

Did you know that the beauty industry in the United States produces 877 pounds of waste every minute?

Yikes.

At Clementine’s, we’re doing everything we can to reduce our carbon footprint and protect our planet. As part of our continued efforts to stay environmentally conscious, we’ve partnered with Salon Cycle, an easy, effective recycling program designed for all kinds of salon waste.

Want to learn more about Salon Cycle’s green salon program, and how Clementine’s stays sustainable? Keep reading!

What is Salon Cycle and How Does it Work?

Salon Cycle is an innovative, easy, and effective recycling program designed specifically for salons. Created by global recycling leader Terracycle, Salon Cycle makes it quick and easy to recycle all kinds of salon products that are usually considered waste.

With Salon Cycle, salons can easily and effectively keep their clients — and the planet — looking beautiful. Salon Cycle makes it easy to recycle salon waste that municipal trash and recycling programs typically do not accept, including:

  • Metal color tubes and used hair foils

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves and masks

  • Plastic product lids and containers

  • Coffee capsules, straws, utensils, cups, snack wrappers

  • Excess hair color (not lightener)

  • Hair clippings

  • Aerosol cans

  • Synthetic hair, including clippings and extensions

…and more!

Salon Cycle works with selected manufacturers to turn salon waste into new, reusable materials. If something cannot be reused, Salon Cycle responsibly converts the waste products into energy. Salon Cycle even recycles human hair — depositing hair into a compost where it can naturally biodegrade. Pretty cool, huh?

So….What do these Eco-friendly Efforts Mean for Clemmies?

It’s a fair question.

Now, you can proudly say that as a Clemmie, you support a green salon — one that is doing everything we can to make our world a better, more beautiful, place for future generations.

To support our environmental efforts, you may see an eco-fee on your service ticket. This money goes to help pay for the Salon Cycle program.

Clementine’s Other Environmental Efforts

Beyond partnering with Salon Cycle, Clementine’s is committed to doing everything we can to be an environmentally focused company. A few of our favorite eco-friendly products and practices include:

  • Every shampoo bowl at all Clementine’s locations has eco-heads to cut down on water waste.

  • Energy-efficient hand dryers were added to our bathrooms in 2022.

  • Clemmies at our LoHi salon are wearing new gloves that can be reused for up to one month!

  • We now offer e-receipts for all Clementine’s purchases, including salon and spa services, products, and retail!

  • Clemmies at our Stanley Marketplace location partner with Zero Market to refill our hand soaps and essential oils.

With the help of Salon Cycle and loyal clients like you, Clementine’s is leading the way to a greener, more gorgeous future.

Excess color

We do our best to only mix as much color as we think we need, but sometimes there is excess. In those cases, we simply scrape the leftover color into this bucket, and when it's full, we send it back to @SalonCycle!

Human hair composting

If there's one thing we see a lot of at our salon, it's hair! Did you know that in our mission to be an eco-friendly salon, we actually compost your hair? We collect your hair and then send it to @SalonCycle to be composted! Compost is organic material that can be added to soil to help plants grow, so your trim or big chop is helping the planet in a green way. 🌱

MIXED SALON WASTE

Color tubes, hair foils, gloves, product containers—salons can produce A LOT of trash. That's why we're working with @SalonCycle to recycle it all! SalonCycle makes it easy for us to recycle all that waste in one place so we can be an eco-friendly salon and keep our planet as beautiful as our clients.
